Birds of a feather!

When putting together your wardrobe, you should start by focusing on the key pieces that you will wear again and again. In winter, this could be an everyday coat or sweater. But there are also pieces that can be worn all year round, such as your favorite jeans or your favorite white shirt. Both can be combined in different ways to create countless outfits. A short black skirt is a year-round wardrobe essential.
“A short black skirt is at the top of the list of closet must-haves,” says Coco Schiffer, a New York-based celebrity stylist. And for good reason: a simple black skirt goes with just about everything. “There are only a few pieces of clothing that are essential, and I would argue that this is one of them,” says Schiffer. When something is as multifunctional as a black mini skirt, the styling possibilities are endless. “It’s versatile because it can play the lead role in a look or fade into the background, depending on the styling,” says Schiffer.
But so much flexibility also means more freedom of choice. And after putting a lot of time and effort into putting together a great outfit, there’s nothing worse than not knowing what shoes to wear with it. Of course, footwear is one of the final components of an outfit, as you probably won’t put it on until you’ve finished with the ankle
Whether you’re styling a black pleated, bubble or pencil skirt, we’ve got your feet covered. Below is a guide to five types of shoes you can wear with your favorite short black skirts.
1. Chunky Loafers

When it comes to the ideal combination of shoe and mini skirt, Schiffer says: “The aim is to elongate.” That’s why a chunky loafer that offers a little extra heel height is an absolute must with any black mini skirt. A pair of studded loafers in the season’s hottest color, oxblood, adds even more dimension to an all-black look. You can also opt for a shorter hemline, such as this micro bubble mini skirt. Wear with black tights to keep you warm and add even more texture.
2. With Knee High Boots

One of my personal favorites among black skirts is the pleated mini. Since Miu Miu caused a sensation on the catwalk in spring/summer 2022 with a micro mini skirt, pleated skirts in the style of the year 2000 are back in vogue. And since we’re a few years past the point where it was just a trend, it’s safe to say that pleated skirts are here to stay. To go with the flowing style, Schiffer recommends wearing knee-high boots in the colder months. “I would choose something with a heel,” she says. An ivory, pointed-toe boot is a great contrast to the rest of the look.
3. With Pointed Slingbacks

Looking at the biggest trends this season, I would go for the oversized coat. While you can show off the rest of your outfit, a black short knit skirt would be my styling tip. The cozy texture will keep you feeling comfortable while looking super stylish.
To achieve this level of sophistication, Schiffer says pointed slingbacks, one of her favorite styles, “are so chic and elevate the look of the short black skirt.” A pair of slingbacks is a solid investment that you’ll wear again and again. You can wear them with or without tights and with so many other outfits. They are an absolute must!
4. With Stilettos

There are so many ways to wear a black pencil style mini skirt. As for shoes, no matter what you wear with it, you should always keep it simple. “For example, if you’re wearing a pencil skirt, you shouldn’t pair it with a chunky sneaker or loafer because that wouldn’t work well with your proportions,” says Schiffer. Instead, she recommends a pair of pointed stilettos. Since red and black are the main colors of the entire outfit in this case, it would be ideal to keep the shoes minimalist in white or black.
5. With Sandals

The fabric used to make a black short skirt can completely change your mood. It’s no different with a leather A-line short skirt. And just because it’s made from a heavier fabric like leather, doesn’t mean you can’t wear it with sandals. If the weather permits, I would even favor a strappy leather sandal (instead of a boot or loafer) to loosen up the look.
