After all, Seattle is not that far from L.A.
Nearly four years after “Suits” aired, the lawyer drama is officially making its primetime TV debut – this time in sunny Los Angeles. Back in October, Deadline reported that series creator Aaron Korsh was “in development on a Suits spin-off” with NBC Universal, and now, a month later, the first plot and casting details are emerging.
The new series, titled Suits L.A., will focus on Ted Black (played by Stephen Amell), a former New York prosecutor who starts an L.A. law firm specializing in criminal and entertainment cases. And while the reboot will feature a new location and a new set of characters, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) from the original series will definitely return for three episodes.
On Wednesday, Macht seemingly confirmed the news with a short clip he posted on Instagram. In the video, the actor wore a white button-down shirt with Harvey’s initials “H.S.” embroidered on the cuffs, as well as a pair of brown dress shoes with the name “Harvey” on them. “When an old friend is in need…. it’s time to take care of things and fix those very ‘things’,” he wrote in the caption of the clip, which was set to the Suits theme song ‘Greenback Boogie’.
Deadline has also reported that Patrick J. Adams, who played Mike Ross, has also expressed interest in reprising his role. Whether other members of the original cast (Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle) will appear in the series has not yet been confirmed.
For those who haven’t seen the original series: Markle played paralegal Rachel Zane for seven seasons before becoming a member of the royal family. Her character and Adams’ Mike Ross decided to get married and move to Seattle, where they started their own law firm. And since Seattle is on the same coast as Los Angeles, there’s a chance that the Duchess of Sussex will appear in the series.
A screen comeback for Rachel Zane wouldn’t be completely out of the question, as Markle has made an unexpected return to acting since leaving the royal family. In December 2023, she starred in a commercial for coffee brand Clevr, and she recently signed with global talent agency WME.
“Suits L.A.” premieres on February 23 on NBC.
